Patent Application - Starbucks
What you will learn is that each field of invention is totally unique inside the patent world, and the more your research the more you will find public patents and public application, the example of a patent application below is very interesting.
A system and method are provided for communication between a communication device and a content provider associated with an internet domain name and a server. The system includes a network with a user interface, an internet connection, and an interface to the content provider's internet domain. A communication device user enters a concise message request which includes a channel, a designator and, optionally, a request instruction. The combination of the channel and the designator specify a location on the internet at which routing instructions reside for responding to the concise message request and generating a concise message response for output to the communication device. Concise message documents can be generated for effecting financial transactions such as purchases and payments via SMS. CMRL can also be used to route person-to-person messaging through a content provider's internet domain at which the users may be registered.

Patent look - Beverage container holder
While enjoying an amazing drink today, I saw this patent number: 6,863,644, as a independent inventor you need to get used to look at other peoples patents:
A machine and method for producing beverage container holders of consistently high quality at high production rates and at an economical cost is disclosed herein. Beverage container holders (500) can be produced on the machine using the method disclosed herein at a rate of 50,000 beverage container holders per hour. The initial step of introducing the blanks 810) into the machine's conveying mechanism assures that the blanks are properly aligned and have a predetermined spacing there between, which avoids jamming of the machine and the resulting work stoppage (FIG. 2). The process includes steps for pre-breaking or pre-folding the flaps (FIG. 5) which enable the final folding of the flaps to be performed with the necessary reliability and speed. All except the final step of the manufacturing process are performed while the blanks are being conveyed at a constant high rate along the length of the machine.

Patent work
As you have noticed so far, there is a lot reading, reading, and more reading and watching videos, the biggest question to all potential inventors will be it is worth my time, if you can afford a patent agent or a patent attorney (both experienced in your field) it is something to consider instead of trying to learn a new trade, if you have the time and want to learn enough in order to be able to evaluate the performance of the patent agent or attorney you will hire, the resources and notes posted on this blog will be of a great value for you.

Tools for the Trademark practitioner
Check out this version of Adobe Photoshop CS5, it is a must have when you are working with Trademarks registrations. There will be a learning curve, but once you pass that hump you will be glad you took the time to learn and invested the money.
